The Global Coalition on Migration (GCM) represents a vital space where its members can collectively chart the best methods, strategies and tools to take action together. GCM members comprise regional and international networks of migrant associations, migrants rights organizations and advocates, trade unions, faith groups and academia, covering every region around the world. The concept of the GCM was born out of the collaborations of its initial member organizations around the Global Forum on Migration (GFMD) and the corresponding People’s Global Action on Migration, Development & Human Rights (PGA) processes. The GCM is currently active in providing civil society input to the proposed Global Compact on Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration, that will be negotiated over the next two years. Migration is the topic of intense attention and government focus in the current political climate. The GCM responds to the need for a strong presence, collective voice, and unified vision to advocate for the best possible global governance and policy-making around migration. For ongoing updates on GCM work on the Global Compact, click here. The GCM was formally launched on 3 December 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland, and its International Secretariat is hosted by Alianza Americas. The work of our political foundation focuses on the core ideas and values of social democracy – freedom, justice and solidarity. This connects us to social democracy and free trade unions. As a non-profit institution, we organise our work autonomously and independently.
We support and strengthen social democracy in particular by means of:
